Welcome to the SatCure web sites

There is lots of information in them about UK Satellite TV and Hobbies - especially hobbies involving Electronics.

Why "SatCure"? The name arose from the original business which was the repair of analogue satellite receivers - hence "Satellite Cure". To my knowledge, the name is not in use anywhere else so, if you search for "SatCure", you will land on one of our web sites.

Our web sites now contain over 500 pages which makes them one of the biggest satellite TV information resources on the Internet! To make it easier to navigate, let me explain what we are selling (the bottom line!) and then I'll tell you about the other 90 percent which is simply FREE information. WARNING! I have a wry sense of humour that some of you will not appreciate. I want you to have fun during your visit here but I also want you to buy something. Don't be surprised if I keep reminding you. This is the way I feed my family and it takes priority over anything else. However, I won't rip you off and I won't deliberately sell you anything you don't need.

Free Information

Most of this web site is devoted to free information. There's a large amount of it in the Satellite section. Don't miss out on the amusing stories there just because you are not interested in satellite TV !

There's also information in the Electronics Design section. I've started a basic series of information pages about electronic components and how they work. All very simple stuff.

If you want a (nearly) complete list of every page on this web site, here it is, with clickable links. Bear in mind you are looking at just ONE of my web sites.

And, finally, you can read all about me. Start here and work onwards.

By the way, each month I send an e-mail news letter about satellite TV stuff, new products and anything else that I feel might interest you. To join my mailing list, simple check the box in my FREE SATELLITE BOOK download form.

Do you design web sites?

How did you find our web site? Was it difficult?

No?

Want to know why?

I've written a booklet called "Be Found" to help you design a successful web site. I don't mean a web site that looks pretty, which nobody ever visits. I mean a web site like this which has *hundreds* of visitors each day! This doesn't deal much with the technicalities but points out a lot of home truths about how people actually use the Internet, what they search for and how. It points out the shortcomings in many web sites and how you can avoid them in yours.

When I say "I've written a book" that's not quite true. This is a compillation of notes made since I built my first web site (this one) back in 1995. Each time I tried a new idea and it increased the number of visitors, I wrote it down. Now YOU can benefit from my years of experience. And bear in mind that getting a web site FOUND has nothing whatsoever to do with the way that web site LOOKS. The appearance matters only AFTER your visitor has found your site. In my case, the appearance of my web sites isn't brilliant. C'mon, I'm an engineer not an artist! But I can give you a few practical tips about appearance that will help you. However, the main point of the book is to get your site FOUND. If people can't find it, then it really doesn't matter what it looks like! Oh, and by the way: I have NEVER paid for search engine "placement".

The booklet is .. well, it's not free .. I guess you could call it "shareware" because once you've downloaded it, I can't stop you from sharing it. I can't even force you to pay for it in the first place. I rely on your honesty.

But it's very cheap and I promise you that, if you have a web site or design web sites, you'll find new, valuable information in it which is worth far more than the miserly price I'm asking. So, if your site attracts less than 30,000 unique visitors each month, you need my book. If your site already attracts more than that, maybe we should talk!

Copyright

You can download ANY of my pages to your own computer but PLEASE do not distribute them or upload them to any bulletin board, web site or News Group. Why?....

Well, they are copyright of course but the main reason is that I continually update the information. Do you have time to do that? No? Well then, please don't publish my pages. It only gives me problems in a few weeks time when somebody reads the out-of-date page then asks me a question about it.

DO add as many links to my pages as you wish. Put links on your web site, mention them in News Groups, magazines, letters to your friends and, if you want a reciprocal link, please ASK me and I'll do it if your web site is suitable :o)

What makes me qualified to help you?

Of course I don't know *everything* but I'm 50+ years old and I have a fairly broad-based knowledge of technical things, which I've learned by designing simple electronic circuits since age ten, and by spending time getting my degree at University, followed by many years in industry with companies such as GEC Telecommunications, Siemens and Brother Industries, where I was firstly Quality Assurance Manager then Technical Manager. I was also Technical Manager for EUROSAT at Walsall for three years.

Apart from design work, I've also done a lot of repair work. Given the circuit diagrams and spare parts, I used to be able to fix almost anything - from doorbells through computers. Nowadays, however, components are becoming smaller and increasingly complex and my eyesight is getting worse. The latest Digital Satellite receivers are difficult to repair, requiring a large investment in equipment, so I'm happy to leave repairs to the youngsters!

I'm fairly good at finding components and information so, if you can't find it on one of my web sites, feel free to ask. At worst, I'll "tell you where to go" and, at best, I'll tell you where to go.   ;o)

The "Screwdriver Expert's Guide" gives you general information about fixing satellite receivers and power supplies. No in-depth knowledge is required. This book describes the basic components, soldering and fault-finding techniques.

Happy Customers

Throughout my site you'll find notes like this (and a few complaints). They are all genuine. I don't need to make them up. There's a lot of nice people out there.

Great service!
This is the first time that I have tried repairing any electronic equipment. The advice you provided was excellent and the parts supplied fixed the problem!

John Bennet

I confess that it was with great trepidation that I began to offer my "trade" kits to the general public. However, I have consistently been amazed by the abilities and honesty of the majority of my customers. I think some of them (like you) were possibly even more surprised by what they could achieve with only a little help and the correct components :o)

To help further, we now stock low-cost soldering irons, solder kit, multimeter, cutters, tweezers etc.
