15. Can I use a 9.75 GHz LNB?
16. How do I connect an external D2Mac decoder?

1. Why is my receiver dead?
Check PCB fuse FP01. This should be replaced with a T500mA.
In Mk1 models, fuse melting is a sign of mains power surge. Check house wiring and avoid using electrical equipment such as lawnmower, vacuum cleaner, electric drill and arc welder nearby!

On MkII the standard fuse is T1.25A which allows the entire power supply to be destroyed.

In the MkII you may need to replace the following:
DP02 BZX83C30
DP06 BZX55B12
DP07,8,10,19 1N4148
DP09 BZX83C15
TPO1,5 BC857B
TP02,3 BC847B
TP04 MOSFET P6N60F1
FUSE 500mA recommended
RP17 2K7 SMD 5% 0.25W
RP30 22R SMD 5% 0.25W
RP18 1R5 5% 0.25W Flame Retardant
TL431 adjustable zener reference
IP01 Optocoupler (CNY17-1Z)

2. Why do I see a blank screen when MENU button is pressed?
Check AF51 crystal operation.

If the screen is blank permanently then the 12 volt supply from transistor TP08 may be missing. Measure the voltage from its collector. If there is no 12 volt output then replace TP08 and also remove and throw away TP13 (not needed) which is likely to be faulty.

FXT749 transistor lead arrangement

An FXT749 may be used to replace TP08

3. Why do I see misspelt graphics?
Check AF51 crystal for dry joints.

4. Why do I measure no LNB voltage?
If only port 1 affected, replace DB61. If only port 2 is affected, replace DB62. If both ports affected, replace RB64 (1 1).
Note: LNB voltage can also be turned off in the Service Menu so check this first!

5. Why will the LNB voltage not go below 16.5?
IP02

6. Why is there no output from RF modulator but OK from SCART socket?
Check for voltage on capacitors C81 and C82 at the side of the modulator. If no voltage, replace TP07 in the power supply.

7. Why no pictures on lower frequency channels (or drifts off when warm)?
Early tuners would not tune lower than Astra 1a. Replace tuner panel.
Receivers with serial numbers 149628 to 159888 were affected.

Picture drifts in and out every few seconds (especially ASTRA 1C):
Channel polarity is reversed. (Early receivers had all Astra 1C channels reversed).
Later receivers had this corrected and the carton is marked (NP).

8. How do I turn ON the Automatic Frequency Control?
To change from fine tune value back to AFC, select CHANNEL in the menu:
Press [FP+] then [FP-]
Press STORE
Enter the three digit channel number
Press [TV/SAT]

9. Why do I get intermittent or no decoding. Faint messages?
Improve 5v connection by soldering a wire from J48 to pin 7 of decoder board connector.

10. Why does LNB voltage switch 16.5v - 17.0v only?
Replace IP02.

11. Why are some channels very sparkly?
In the menu, select CHANNEL and press [FP+] then [FP-]. Press STORE then enter the three-digit channel number. Press [TV/SAT] to exit from the menu.
If this fails to correct the problem, in the menu, deselect the AFC and fine tune until picture is clear, then store.

12. How do I select/deselect RADIO?
To select/deselect RADIO press the [--/---] button while the appropriate line is selected in the Audio menu. (Obvious, wasn't it!)

13. Are there any Secret Handset Codes?
To enter the Service Menu, press the following button sequence, quickly:

STORE
-/--
TV/SAT

If [ERR] message appears, cancel by pressing TV/SAT then try again.
Once in the service mode, you can alter such features as PIN number, actual video level and other program codes.

Note: For mk1 the default option code is 01110001
For mkII the default option code is 10100001
DO NOT MESS WITH THIS!

14. Can I control an external tone inserter etc?
Yes, there is a dc output Phono socket on the back panel.
In the Channel Programming Menu you will see a line
Switch 0/12v
Press FP+ to change this voltage.
You can select 0v, 3v, 6v, 9v or 12v.
You could even design a circuit that will detect what voltage is there and operate as many as five external boxes to switch in a tone inserter or to switch between several LNBs!

15. Can I use a 9.75 GHz LNB?

Yes. For every channel allocated to the 9.75 GHz LNB, select "Sat. band = Low 10".
For every channel allocated to a 10.0 GHz LNB, select "Sat. band = Low 11".

Press [P+] [P-] until the DECODER line is selected on the screen menu
Press [FP+] until this line reads d3
Press [STORE] then enter the channel number (3 digits).
Press [TV/SAT] to confirm changes and to exit menu mode.

NOKIA 5918 D2MAC DECODER (3002CS)

The 3002CS uses the TV SCART socket for its satellite receiver connection!

Connect 3002CS to TV using SCART - SCART or RF output. With the 3002CS handset press: [MENU] [P+] [FP+] [P+] [P+] [P+] and press [FP+] to set Baseband output to SCART. The next line down - Baseband Deemphasis - may be set to MAC or FLAT to correspond to the receiver output. You may need to return to this, later. Now connect TV to satellite receiver. Connect the satellite receiver Decoder Output to the TV Scart socket of the 3002CS.

Set the satellite-receiver for EXT AV on a D2MAC channel. Set the receiver baseband deemphasis to MAC or FLAT. You may need to change this setting on both receiver and 3002CS to get a reliable picture. Note that some pirate cards may not work.

Some receivers will not give a satisfactory MAC deemphasised output. PRD without 2GHz written on the serial number label can be a problem. Early Pace receivers can also give intermittent results. Where this is the case, set the receiver to give PAL deemphasis and alter the 3002CS wiring as follows:

Inside the 3002CS "TV" socket Scart plug, cut the wire from pin 20. Extend this wire to a Phono plug in the BASEBAND IN socket of the 3002CS.

Set the 3002CS Installation menu Baseband input to "Phono."
Set the 3002CS Installation menu "TV switch" option to "On."
(See the following page for more detailed instructions).

For Scart socket input, Flat or Mac deemphasis may be selected).
[P+] until the words "TV switch" are highlighted (select "On")
[STORE] to store these settings.
[TV/SAT] to exit the menu.

Connect the SAT1800 to the TV and select each D2Mac channel in turn.
Press:
[down arrow] to highlight "Channel Set-up".
[OK]
[down button] to highlight "Decoder".
[down arrow] to select "d3".
[OK]
[OK]
[TV/SAT]
[TV/SAT] to exit the menu.

Modify a Scart to Scart lead as follows:
Inside one plug, cut the wire which goes to pin 20. Extend this wire by 200mm and fit a Phono (cinch) plug to it. Label this plug "TV 3002CS."
Label the other Scart plug "Decoder Scart SAT1800."

Connect the SAT1800 to the 3002CS using the modified Scart lead.
The modified Scart plug goes to the "TV" Scart socket on the 3002CS.
The Phono plug goes to the "IN Baseband" socket.
The other Scart plug goes to the "Decoder Scart" socket on the SAT1800.

With a D2Mac channel selected you should see the message "No smart card in slot" after a few seconds. Press the green handset button to select left or right card slot and insert the smart card.

Nokia d2mac decoder reset and SVA1 5volt line
On the Nokia 5815 D2mac decoder, and using the twin pic pcb, when
changing from any of the 3 TV3 channels to either Filmnet + or
TV1000 or vice-versa the decoder does not issue a reset to the card.

The only way to get the reset is to either pull the card/interface
out and put it back or to put the decoder into and out of standby
using the remote control or the pushbutton on the front. This then makes the decoder issue a reset.

If you put a led onto the reset line, you will see the led flash
when a reset is issued.

(PS - update for the SAT1700 FAQ D2MAC decoder section - connect up with a standard (un-modified) all pins connected SCART to SCART lead between the decoder SCART and whatever is in use, select Decoder 3 in the internal menus - and WAIT!!! - the Nokia and decoder can take upto 5 seconds to display a picture.

As for the various settings offered by David Krawczyk - all you need to change is the DECODER AUT ON - which you select to OFF - then enable D1 for the Internal Videocrypt decoder and D3 for the external D2MAC decoder. Found also that some decoders need you to vary the CONTRAST setting - often on a per-channel basis to personal preferences - especially when using the Phillips CTU900.)
